The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has asked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to provide evidence of its application to use Eagle Square for its national convention.
Speaking on Monday during a project inspection in Abuja, Wike said no formal request was submitted to his office or any relevant authority. He emphasized that Eagle Square remains accessible to all organisations that follow due process.
The minister’s response follows allegations by the ADC that it was denied access to Eagle Square and the Velodrome at the National Stadium. Wike dismissed the claims as unfounded and an attempt to gain public sympathy, insisting that no official application was received.
According to ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s requests were ignored ahead of its convention scheduled for April 14. The party has now moved the event to the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja.
Wike reiterated that access to government facilities is granted only after proper application and payment of required fees, citing examples of past conventions by major political parties that followed the process.
Recall that the David Mark faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had accused Wike’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministry of attempting to frustrate its planned National Convention scheduled for Tuesday in Abuja.
