Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been officially appointed as the Head of Youth Mobilisation for the re-election campaign of his uncle, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The singer announced the move on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), confirming his high-level role within the campaign structure of the Accord Party, which the Governor joined in late 2025. “We look forward to a smooth campaign and your re-election Your Excellency! 4+4,” Davido shared with his millions of followers, signaling a aggressive push for youth engagement ahead of the polls.

The appointment comes as political machinery shifts into high gear for the August, 2026, Osun governorship election. Governor Adeleke’s strategic move to the Accord Party follows a period of internal realignment, and the inclusion of Davido is seen as a major boost to his appeal among young voters. With the youth demographic making up a significant portion of Nigeria’s registered voters—estimated at over 70% of the total population under the age of 30—the singer’s global influence is expected to be a cornerstone of the Governor’s grassroots strategy.
This is not Davido’s first foray into the state’s official business; in October 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund. In that capacity, he was tasked with leveraging his international network to attract investment for the modernization of sports facilities, such as the Osogbo Township Stadium. His transition from sports administration to direct political mobilisation marks a deepening of his involvement in the governance and future of his home state.
As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the August vote, the “Adeleke Campaign Council” is prioritizing digital and physical outreach to the diaspora and local youth. Analysts suggest that Davido’s massive social media presence—boasting over 50 million followers across major platforms—provides the Accord Party with an unparalleled medium to mobilise a fanbase that has historically shown high levels of political apathy. The 2026 race is shaping up to be a pivotal test of whether celebrity influence can translate into sustained electoral turnout at the state level.
