The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to break tradition with a massive “trilogy” of star-studded opening ceremonies, honoring the unique cultures of the three host nations: Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

FIFA confirmed that the global spectacle will kick off on June 11 at Mexico City Stadium, 90 minutes before the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.

This first celebration will lean heavily into Latin heritage, featuring Colombian megastar, J Balvin, alongside Mexican icons like Maná, Alejandro Fernández, and Belinda. South African singer Tyla is also set to perform, bridging the cultural gap between the tournament’s inaugural competitors.

The festivities continue on June 12 as the spotlight shifts north to Toronto for Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the planned ceremonies as a way to reflect both national individuality and global unity, promising a “journey across Canada” that spans from coast to coast.

The Toronto lineup is stacked with Canadian talent, including Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, and Jessie Reyez, alongside international performers like Elyanna and Nora Fatehi, emphasizing the country’s diverse musical landscape.

Later that same day, the United States will launch its campaign against Paraguay in Los Angeles with a high-octane production headlined by pop icon Katy Perry. Returning to a massive sporting stage for the first time since her 2015 Super Bowl performance, Perry will be joined by a genre-defying roster including Nigeria’s “Calm Down” Crooner, Rema, rapper Future and Blackpink’s Lisa.

Additional global stars like Brazil’s Anitta and Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy are also billed for the L.A. event, which Infantino noted is designed to showcase the “vibrancy of the many diasporas” that define the American cultural experience.

Organizers are calling the nearly six-week-long tournament a “shared heartbeat” across time zones and borders, urging fans to arrive early to play an “active role” in the interactive shows.

With more artists still to be announced, the 2026 World Cup is positioning itself as the largest entertainment crossover in sports history. “The world will share this moment,” Infantino stated, highlighting that the three-city rollout is a powerful way to begin what is expected to be the most expansive and inclusive football tournament ever held.
