The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki is set to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential aspirant on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
According to a statement released by the party on Sunday, the screening exercise for all categories of contestants will commence at 10:00 a.m. ahead of the party’s upcoming primary elections. The process aligns with the party’s official guidelines and timetable for the 2027 general elections.
While the official party statement withheld the identity of the lone presidential hopeful, an internal party source confirmed that Dr. Jonathan is indeed the single candidate scheduled for the high-stakes screening.
Efforts to reach the party’s national publicity secretary, Ini Ememobong, for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
In total, the faction is preparing to screen an extensive roster of aspirants across various legislative and executive levels.
The breakdown includes 2,122 State House of Assembly aspirants, 748 House of Representatives hopefuls, 198 senatorial contenders, and 112 governorship aspirants, alongside the single presidential candidate.
The screening will be conducted by a high-profile 14-member committee, which was formally approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) at its 104th meeting.
The panel features prominent party stalwarts, including former Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, former Foreign Affairs Minister, Tom Ikimi, and Olabode George.
Other notable members include Babangida Aliyu, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Josephine Anenih, Abdul Bulama, Esther Uduehi, Edo PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, Sunday Solari, and Anicho Okoro, who will serve as the committee’s administrative secretary.
