The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has remanded Omoyele Sowore, the presidential aspirant of the African Action Congress (AAC), at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Justice Mohammed Umar ordered that the politician and activist remain in custody pending a formal hearing later this week regarding his legal status.
The remand order will remain in effect until June 24, 2026, when the court is scheduled to hear Sowore’s application seeking to set aside the previous revocation of his bail.
Justice Umar had revoked the politician’s bail on June 16, citing Sowore’s repeated failure to appear in court to stand trial for his ongoing legal matters.

The court’s recent enforcement actions followed an oral application made by Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, the lead counsel representing the Department of State Services (DSS).
In response to the prosecution’s application on June 16, Justice Umar had also issued an immediate bench warrant for the activist’s arrest, leading to his current detention.
The DSS is actively prosecuting Sowore over allegations of making false claims against President Bola Tinubu.
The prosecution’s case centers on social media updates posted to Sowore’s X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts, in which he allegedly referred to the sitting president as “a criminal.”
