The Federal Ministry of Works has officially announced a ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the newly constructed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Taking effect this week, the strict restriction was unveiled in a statement on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr. Olufemi Dare.

According to Dare, the decisive measure was introduced specifically to protect the multi-billion naira superhighway from misuse and premature deterioration, ensuring its long-term sustainability.

In a bid to preserve the corridor’s integrity, the Federal Controller also issued a stern warning against the indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles.

He clarified that these sweeping restrictions do not just apply to the coastal highway itself, but also extend to all bridges across Lagos State.

Furthermore, the ministry has strictly prohibited the indiscriminate disposal of refuse along highway corridors, labeling the habit as entirely unacceptable.

To ensure the new rules are respected, Dare warned that offenders will face strict enforcement measures as authorities move swiftly to maintain order on the transit routes.

Informational signages indicating the new restrictions have already been installed along the highway to give motorists adequate notice.

Additionally, dedicated task force officials will be deployed to strategic locations to arrest and prosecute non-compliant commuters.

The ministry highlighted the strategic importance of the route, describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure project that requires a high standard of maintenance and protection.

The official urged all road users, transport unions, and community members to cooperate and comply with the new directives, framing obedience as a matter of public safety.

In his closing remarks, Dare stressed that preserving this critical facility would significantly enhance its lifespan and maintain its massive socioeconomic value to all Nigerians.

He reiterated that the government remains committed to protecting public infrastructure and will not tolerate actions that compromise the country’s collective investments.
