Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the actualisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport, describing the project as a major economic gateway with the potential to drive trade, industry, logistics, job creation and investment in the state.
Speaking during a state broadcast to mark Akwa Ibom’s 39th anniversary, Governor Eno said his administration was aware of the expectations surrounding the seaport project but would continue to follow due process and establish the necessary foundations for its successful completion.
The governor described the proposed seaport as more than an infrastructure project, saying it was conceived as a new economic gateway for Akwa Ibom and future generations.
He said the project would play a significant role in expanding economic opportunities and positioning the state for greater commercial activities.
Governor Eno also identified agriculture as another major priority of his administration, stressing the need to build a strong agricultural economy capable of creating wealth and generating employment for the people of the state.
He said government interventions in the sector include agricultural grants, equipment support, farm inputs, model farms and the Palm Tree Crop Revolution.
According to him, the initiatives are aimed at strengthening agricultural production and supporting farmers across the state.
The governor said his administration remained determined to restore agriculture to a central position in Akwa Ibom’s economy, stressing that farmers must prosper and young people should be encouraged to view agriculture as a viable and sustainable business.
