Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has extended high praise to the state’s workforce for their unwavering dedication and contributions to regional development.
In a goodwill message delivered by his deputy, Akon Eyakenyi, during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebrations, the Governor described the labour force as “critical partners” in the state’s progress.
He emphasized that the resilience shown by employees across various sectors remains the backbone of the state’s economic and social stability.
In a tangible gesture aimed at strengthening labour relations, Governor Eno announced the donation of official vehicles to key union leaders.

The recipients included Comrade Kingsley Akpan, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, and Comrade Kingsley Ekong, Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council. This move is seen as a strategic effort to enhance the operational efficiency of union leadership and foster a more collaborative environment between the government and organized labour.
Responding to the Governor’s gestures, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Akwa Ibom, Comrade Sunny James, applauded the administration’s consistent focus on employee well-being.
James specifically highlighted the regular and timely payment of gratuities as a significant achievement that has alleviated the financial burdens of many retirees. This acknowledgment underscores a period of relatively harmonious relations between the state government and its civil service.
Despite the commendations, the NLC Chairman used the platform to advocate for more inclusive welfare policies. James appealed to the state government to prioritize the needs of primary school teachers, urging that they be fully integrated into future government benefit schemes.
He stressed that ensuring the welfare of educators at the foundational level is essential for the long-term educational and developmental goals of Akwa Ibom State.
