Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested Ubong Michael, a kidnapper and cultist, popularly known as “Ubong Boy.” The 30-year-old suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in Ikot Aka Village, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect was caught with chilling evidence, including a human skull, a human bone, two live cartridges, and a dagger, following a swift, intelligence-driven operation.
The police revealed that the suspect had been on their wanted list for a long duration and had previously been hiding in Port Harcourt to evade capture. Intelligence reports recently indicated that he had secretly returned to the community, prompting the police to mobilize. In the official statement, DSP John noted: “Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect is a key figure in multiple kidnapping operations, including the abduction of one Gabriel in 2023 and one John in 2025.” The suspect has reportedly confessed to his involvement in these crimes and is currently providing vital information to help track down his accomplices and recover more weapons.
During the interrogation, Michael admitted to the charges and is assisting the tactical teams in their ongoing onslaught against violent crime syndicates. The command’s spokesperson detailed the progress, stating, “The suspect is currently assisting the police with vital information, aiding ongoing efforts to recover additional weapons and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.” This arrest is seen as a significant victory for the state’s security apparatus, as it targets a major player in the kidnapping network that has plagued the region for several years.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended his officers for their professionalism and warned that Akwa Ibom remains a hostile environment for criminals. Reiterating the command’s stance, the CP warned that criminal elements must desist from their activities or face the full weight of the law. He further urged the public to stay vigilant and continue providing timely information, assuring residents that the police remain resolute in their mandate to protect lives and property across the state.
