President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, officially participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary on Saturday at Ward E in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The high-profile event marks the official commencement of the ruling party’s nationwide campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Arriving in a heavily secured motorcade, the first couple was received by a roaring crowd of party loyalists, security personnel, and media practitioners.

The exercise is a critical component of the APC’s May 2026 ward-level primaries, through which the incumbent president is formally seeking re-nomination as the party’s flag bearer for his reelection bid.

Extensive media coverage captured the lively scene as the President and the First Lady navigated through dense, energetic crowds of APC members, many of whom were dressed in vibrant traditional attire to celebrate the democratic process at the Ikoyi ward.

Speaking immediately after casting his vote, President Tinubu lauded the exercise as a vibrant showcase of internal democracy within the ruling party.

He expressed deep satisfaction with the overall conduct of the primaries across Nigeria, noting that the peaceful and orderly organization reflects the strength of the nation’s political evolution.

“This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has the right to participate and be involved,” President Tinubu stated. “From the ward congresses to local government congresses, to the delegation accreditation, validation, members register, and certification of the electoral process—it has been going very well. At least, you will score democracy at a high level.”
