Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has officially signaled his intent to contest the 2027 presidential election by purchasing the nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The veteran politician received his payment receipt on Saturday, following a N90 million transaction completed on Friday, May 8, 2026.

This move solidifies Atiku’s transition to the ADC, a party he joined late last year after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The ADC announced the development via its official X handle, describing it as “a new chapter in Nigeria’s democratic journey.” The party characterized Atiku’s candidacy as a pivotal moment for “national renewal and people-driven leadership.”

According to the statement, the ADC aims to position itself as the primary credible alternative for Nigerians seeking competence, economic recovery, and heightened national security ahead of the next general elections.

However, the purchase has not been without internal friction. A faction within the party, led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, has reportedly challenged the legitimacy of the current leadership and called for a suspension of form sales pending a Federal High Court decision in Abuja.

Despite these legal rumblings, the party’s mainstream leadership remains undeterred, viewing the entrance of the former Vice President as a major boost to their platform’s visibility and political weight.

The formal presentation of the nomination forms to Atiku Abubakar is scheduled to take place this Monday at the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja.

As the movement grows, party officials have urged supporters to expect more high-profile developments, asserting that “hope is rising” for a shift in the country’s political landscape.
