The Akwa Ibom State Government has called on its youth population to actively seize emerging opportunities within the expanding tourism and hospitality sectors.
Officials noted that the state’s deliberate investments in tourism infrastructure are strategically positioned to generate robust employment.
This growth is expected to create a high demand for trained professionals in hospitality management, tour operations, creative arts, digital content creation, and other related fields.
Speaking in a recent interview, the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, assured young people of the government’s continuous support.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is actively partnering with various government agencies to guarantee that culture, creativity, and tourism remain critical drivers of economic development.
This collaborative effort aligns directly with the administration’s overarching economic blueprint, the ARISE Agenda.
Highlighting the broader tourism development agenda, Dr. Udofia shed light on several high-profile, ongoing projects across the state.
He specifically pointed to the ARISE Park and Resort as well as the Oron Maritime Infrastructure Project, describing them as transformative investments.
According to the Commissioner, these landmarks are designed to significantly boost visitor traffic, create sustainable jobs, and stimulate local economic growth.
Furthermore, the Commissioner reiterated Governor Pastor Umo Eno’s unwavering commitment to developing and promoting Akwa Ibom’s rich historical tourism assets.
Key heritage sites targeted for major preservation and promotion include the historic Amalgamation House, the Bridge of No Return, and the Slave Memorial Boat, alongside various other historical landmarks scattered across the state.
Concluding the interview, Dr. Udofia revealed that comprehensive plans are already underway to build a thriving tourism ecosystem around these historical attractions.
The state government intends to integrate modern hospitality and recreational facilities into these sites, a move aimed at enhancing the overall visitor experience and encouraging tourists to enjoy longer stays in Akwa Ibom.
