Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern warning to political elements allegedly sponsoring insecurity across the nation, urging them to desist and allow the presidency to focus on governance.
Speaking on Tuesday in Benin during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the upcoming local government council elections in the Edo South Senatorial District, Okpebholo claimed that the recent surge in insecurity is a orchestrated attempt by the opposition to tarnish the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The Governor emphasized that promoting instability and criminal activities would not secure political power for its perpetrators in the Senate, House of Representatives, or the presidency.
Declaring “there is no vacancy in Aso Rock; they can even kidnap all of us—yes, but there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” Okpebholo slammed the opposition’s tactics, questioning the rationale behind targeting innocent citizens. “They have failed. Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well,” the Governor stated.
Defending the current administration’s track record, Okpebholo maintained that President Tinubu has outperformed his predecessors.
He noted that the positive impacts of the fuel subsidy removal are already visible, pointing to various development projects currently dotting Edo State as evidence of federal support.
He commended the party’s council candidates who emerged from the primary elections, noting that their impending victories would pave the way for delivering the 2.5 million votes pledged to President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, the APC State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, described the APC as the only viable political party in Edo State.
He charged the newly minted candidates to take the message of the Governor’s developmental strides to every nook and cranny of the state, urging them to replicate these achievements within their respective local government areas once elected.
The high point of the event was the official unveiling of the APC’s Edo South candidates by Governor Okpebholo. Among those presented to the party faithful were Ogbeide Ihama for the Senate, Dr. Paddy Iyamu for the Oredo Federal Constituency, and Omorede Igbinedion for the Ovia Federal Constituency.
