Governor Umo Eno says his administration is taking deliberate steps to ensure a stable and constant power supply across Akwa Ibom State.
In his Easter message on Sunday, the governor noted that the state now has a comprehensive roadmap to transform its power sector, following opportunities created by the Electricity Act 2023 and the state’s power summit held in September 2025.
Governor Eno said, with the backing of local government chairmen, the state is making steady progress in implementing the summit’s resolutions, stressing that achieving reliable electricity requires a coordinated and sustained approach.
“2 days ago, I held a joint EXCO meeting with the chairman of all the 31 local government areas, where they were well briefed on the concrete plans to provide electricity for our people within the next 12 months. They were also briefed on the steps to provide the undeserved or off-grid areas, which are mainly in our rural areas.

The governor assured that “we feel the pain that our people are going through with epileptic power supply, even though this is a national problem, but we are on the way to provide regular electricity to our people.”
According to him, relevant agencies have been established to drive the reforms, with plans underway to begin a full overhaul of the power sector within the next year.
“We have consequently established the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission and Akwa Ibom State Electrification Agency, the two agencies that are required by law to kick start the process of on-boarding electricity generation and distribution in our states.” He said “in the coming weeks, we will announce the names of the five professionals who run the Commission, and I’m hopeful that the status of Assembly will confirm their nomination expeditiously.”
On infrastructure, the governor spoke on progress towards the Ibom Deep Seaport project, revealing that feasibility studies confirming the viability of the project have been completed, alongside a detailed factsheet for prospective investors.
“On the 8th of this month, the Committee on the Boom Deep Seaport Project will be addressing and providing more details on the steps we have so far undertaking to actualize the Boom Deep Seaport.”
Governor Eno re-emphasized that “the actualization of this project is not a Sprint but a marathon and we are putting the building blocks to guide us along the way. We need to follow due process and to ensure that things are done right.”
