How Abandoned Road and Lack of Power are Stifling Economic Growth in Ikot Ibok

Indigenes and residents of Ikot Ibok Village in Etinan Local Government Area are raising the alarm over their deteriorating road, accusing the government of prolonged neglect and abandonment.

The community is questioning the sluggish pace of the road project, which started several years ago but shows little to no progress. They warn that continued neglect creates safety risks and threatens to isolate the area entirely.

Speaking with XL News, the Village Head, Obong Akpan-Akpan Inyang-Antia, identified crumbling road infrastructure and a lack of electricity as the community’s primary challenges. He emphasized that completing the road project would trigger development and improve living conditions for his people.

Other community leaders, including Pastor Esituko Inyang, Sabbath Ndah, and Barrister David Jonathan, also appealed for urgent government intervention. They are calling for an official assessment visit to address their pressing needs.

Residents insist that timely government action will ease movement and stimulate both economic and social growth in the community.
