Popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Tuesday led a peaceful “Bring Them Back” protest in Ibadan, Oyo State, calling for urgent action to secure the release of 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted from Ahoro Community in Oriire Local Government Area.
The demonstration, which drew members of the Ratels movement and concerned Nigerians, culminated in a meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde.
Addressing protesters prior to the meeting, VDM stated that the protest was aimed at demanding clarity from the government on efforts being made to rescue the victims.
He described the situation as heartbreaking, noting that the fate and condition of the abducted children remain unknown.
VDM further lamented reports surrounding the incident, including claims that one of the teachers had been killed, and emphasized the urgency of the situation.
He added that although insecurity is a nationwide issue, the abduction of schoolchildren has struck a deeper emotional chord among Nigerians.

The activist also expressed willingness for volunteers to support security agencies in lawful rescue operations if necessary.
In response, Governor Makinde commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct and reassured them of his administration’s commitment to the safe return of the victims.
He explained that rescue operations involving children require careful planning to avoid endangering their lives, stressing that such missions must be handled with precision and caution.
The governor disclosed that communication had been established as part of ongoing efforts and affirmed that security agencies were actively working to resolve the crisis.
He reiterated his administration’s focus on security, highlighting the establishment of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, as a key initiative.
The protest ended after the engagement, with participants renewing calls for swift action and pledging continued advocacy until the victims are safely returned.
