The Akwa Ibom State Government is steadily advancing its collaboration with prospective international partners toward the full commencement of the multi-billion dollar Ibom Deep Seaport (IDSP) project.
This strategic development is poised to position the state as a premier maritime hub in the West African sub-region, driving economic growth and industrialization.
In a significant stride forward, the IDSP Technical Committee, led by Chairperson Mfon Usoro Esq., recently conducted a comprehensive site inspection of the port area.
The delegation included the project’s master planners, Dar Al-Handasah Consultants, alongside the state Commissioner for Works, Professor Eno Ibanga.
The high-profile visit focused primarily on evaluating critical accessibility plans and infrastructural layouts designed to accommodate the heavy traffic projected for the proposed port.
The assessment began with an intensive briefing session at the Ministry of Works Conference Room in Uyo, where technical blueprints were reviewed.
Following the deliberations, the team deployed to Unyenge and neighboring host communities for an on-the-spot assessment of current progress.
This fieldwork allowed the experts to analyze the geographic and logistical realities of the corridor directly.
A robust delegation of key stakeholders accompanied the tour, underscoring the government’s cross-sectoral commitment to the project.
Among those on-site were former Secretary to the State Government and technical committee member, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem; Rabah Ali, Principal Consultant for Dar Al-Handasah Consultants; and Engr. Akaninyene Ekong, Senior Special Assistant on Projects to the Governor and Director of Projects for the Technical Committee.
This momentum builds directly on the heels of a high-level technical session held last weekend in Paris, France.
During the European summit, Governor Umo Eno and the Ibom Deep Seaport Implementation Committee engaged in crucial negotiations with representatives from the Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Group, finalizing frameworks to accelerate the realization of the maritime project.
