The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in a high-stakes joint operation with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has successfully secured the release of 14 individuals previously abducted by sea pirates.

The victims were intercepted and taken captive along the volatile Calabar–Oron waterways; a key maritime corridor that has recently seen a spike in criminal interference.

According to a formal statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the breakthrough was the result of a meticulously planned, intelligence-driven strategy.

The operation relied on relentless pressure applied to known criminal syndicates operating within the region, effectively squeezing their maneuvers and forcing a tactical advantage for the security forces.

Acting on a series of credible intelligence reports, the joint task force intensified surveillance and launched a sequence of targeted strikes across identified flashpoints.

These aggressive maneuvers culminated in the safe recovery of all fourteen captives. Officials confirmed that the rescue was executed with surgical precision, ensuring that no lives were lost during the confrontation.

Following their liberation, the rescued victims were immediately moved to a secure facility where they are currently undergoing comprehensive medical evaluations and treatment.

In addition to physical healthcare, the individuals are participating in necessary debriefing sessions with security experts before they are officially reunited with their families.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, fsi, expressed his profound satisfaction with the outcome of the mission. He lauded the professionalism and operational synergy demonstrated by the personnel of both the Police and the EFCC, citing the collaboration as a blueprint for future inter-agency success in the state.

While the victims are now safe, the Command emphasized that the mission is far from over. Authorities have assured the public that intensified efforts are underway to track down, identify, and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the abduction, reaffirming their commitment to flushing out maritime criminality in the region.
