The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Akwa Ibom State branch, has called on residents across the state and the wider Nigerian public to remain calm, vigilant, and well-informed following rising concerns over the Ebola Virus Disease.
Speaking during an appearance on the XL FM’s News Hour, the Secretary of the NMA in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Ndifreke Ataide, addressed the public regarding the recent health alerts.
He described the situation as a serious public health emergency that demands a measured, proactive response from every citizen.
Dr. Ataide emphasized the importance of staying calm and urged residents to rely strictly on credible information provided by health authorities.
He noted that relying on verified sources is vital to preventing panic and protecting both individuals and their local communities.
Providing clarity on how the virus spreads, Dr. Ataide explained that the Ebola Virus Disease is transmitted differently from common respiratory illnesses like influenza and COVID-19.
Infection primarily occurs through direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or contaminated objects and surfaces of an infected person.
In light of these transmission risks, the NMA secretary strongly advocated for increased public awareness and strict adherence to established health guidelines.
He concluded that community-wide cooperation and preventive hygiene practices remain the most effective tools to contain any potential threat and safeguard public health.
