President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the removal of Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Ahmed Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), it was confirmed that the President acted under the constitutional powers provided by Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution. The decision marks a significant shift in the administration’s economic leadership as it moves into its third year.

According to the official memo signed by SGF George Akume, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Additionally, Dr. Muttaqha Darma has been named the Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development. The administration noted that these changes are specifically designed to bolster the “Renewed Hope Agenda” by improving inter-agency coordination and strengthening the delivery of critical economic policies to the Nigerian public.

The directive mandates a swift transition of power, with the SGF ordering all outgoing ministers to finalize their handover processes to their successors or designated supervising officials. All administrative transfer activities must be concluded by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026. This firm deadline underscores the President’s desire for a seamless transition to avoid any vacuum in the management of the nation’s fiscal and developmental sectors during this period of transition.

In his concluding remarks, SGF Akume conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and extended well wishes for their future endeavors. However, the statement also hinted that this may not be the final change to the executive team, noting that the process of cabinet reinvigoration will remain a continuous effort. As the new appointees prepare to take their oaths, the focus now shifts to how Oyedele and Darma will navigate the current economic landscape and the high expectations of the presidency.
