Residents of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, have expressed deep concern over the continuous increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas.

Describing the situation as unbearable, many lamented that the skyrocketing cost is placing additional, unprecedented pressure on already stretched household budgets across the metropolis.

The aggrieved residents noted that prevailing economic realities have made it increasingly difficult for families and small business owners to cope.

They disclosed that a significant portion of their monthly income is now swallowed up just by refilling gas cylinders, leaving very little disposable income for other essential needs such as food, healthcare, and transportation.

Speaking with XL News, some of the residents described the persistent rise in cooking gas prices as deeply frustrating.

They explained that the financial strain has forced many households to make difficult adjustments to their daily lives and compromise on other basic necessities just to keep their kitchens running.

The respondents further lamented the broader implications of the price hike, pointing out that the escalating cost of cooking gas is indirectly pushing Nigerians backward.

Many households, unable to afford LPG, are now reverting to traditional cooking methods such as firewood and charcoal, raising concerns over environmental degradation and health hazards.

Consequently, the residents called on the Federal Government and relevant regulatory agencies to urgently intervene in the crisis.

They urged authorities to immediately address the underlying factors responsible for the rising cost of cooking gas and implement policies that will ensure long-term affordability for ordinary consumers.
