Ahead of the 2027 general elections, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State have officially nominated Governor Umo Eno as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.

This decision marks a significant political milestone for the state, solidifying the governor’s position within the ruling party following his high-profile defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last year.

The confirmation took place during the party’s primary elections, which were held concurrently across all 329 wards of the state on Thursday.

The exercise witnessed a massive turnout of party faithful who trooped out in large numbers to cast their ballots at various designated centers. The enthusiastic participation underscored the grassroots alignment and strong internal support for the consensus arrangement.

To ensure transparency and adherence to democratic standards, officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were on the ground to monitor the exercise across the various ward centers.

The presence of the electoral umpire provided administrative legitimacy to the process, which proceeded smoothly with minimal hitches reported across the state.

Governor Eno joined voters at his home ward center in Ikot Ekpene Udo, located within the Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, to cast his ballot.

Upon arrival, the governor was warmly received by key political stakeholders and enthusiastic supporters who accompanied him to the voting point.
