The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has officially adopted its National Women Leader, Mrs. Anita Zugwai-Chukwu, as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Zugwai-Chukwu emerged unopposed during the party’s third national convention held in Abuja. The event, which drew national officers, state chairmen, and delegates from across the country, was described by party leadership as a strategic milestone aimed at repositioning the YPP as a formidable force ahead of the upcoming polls.

In her acceptance speech, Zugwai-Chukwu expressed deep appreciation to the party’s National Executive Committee and state chairmen for their visionary leadership.

Acknowledging the heavy expectations of a nation yearning for transparent, people-centered, and progressive governance, she pledged to prioritize the party’s collective vision over personal ambition. “As your presidential candidate, my duty is very clear,” she stated. “I will safeguard our party vision, uphold the constitution, and work closely with stakeholders, my personal ambition takes second place.”

Earlier at the convention, YPP National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri, unveiled a bold new political roadmap dubbed “Agenda 469,” designed to shift the country’s legislative paradigm.

Amakiri explained that the initiative specifically aims to strengthen the YPP’s legislative influence by targeting control of the 469 seats in the Nigerian Parliament.

He criticized current legislative priorities as self-serving, insisting that the YPP would focus strictly on sponsoring laws that directly improve citizens’ welfare, economic stability, and national security.

Rounding off the convention, the national chairman urged members and grassroots support groups nationwide to aggressively mobilize ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite what he described as desperate attempts by external forces to weaken opposition political parties in Nigeria, Amakiri maintained that the YPP remains resilient and deeply committed to democratic participation. “We refuse to be discouraged,” Amakiri declared, rallying the crowd with a call to action: “Nigerians deserve better and together, we must reset the future now.”
