Akwa Ibom Police Command Arrest 25 Suspects in Cult Raids

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects during raids on identified black spots across the state.

The operation, which targeted suspected cult activity, was carried out in Abak Local Government Area, following credible intelligence received by the command.


According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Timfin John, operatives stormed a notorious black spot located at Oku Abak village in Abak.

The location was reportedly being used as an assembly point for suspected members of a secret cult confraternity. The raid was described as successful, with no casualties recorded.


A thorough search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and a red beret believed to be associated with cult activities.

The police also impounded three motorcycles and a minibus suspected to have been used for criminal operations by the group.


The 25 suspects are currently in police custody and are said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations. Police authorities confirmed that efforts are underway to track and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate linked to the hideout.


Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to ridding Akwa Ibom State of cultism and other criminal activities.

He warned all criminal elements to desist from unlawful acts or face the full weight of the law, stressing that the police would sustain intelligence-driven operations.


The command further urged members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities within their communities.

The police noted that community collaboration remains critical in the ongoing effort to ensure safety and security across the state.
