Governor Chukwuma Soludo has launched a decisive crackdown on “fake pastors” operating within Anambra State, accusing them of exploiting vulnerable citizens through the deceptive preaching of “salvation without the cross.”
Speaking at an event in Awka, the governor revealed that several of these individuals are already in state custody and are currently making confessions regarding their operations.
Soludo emphasized that this initiative is a critical component of his mission to build a “New Anambra” that is free from spiritual deception and the social vices that weaken the state’s moral fabric.
The governor challenged religious and political leaders to embody the courage necessary for genuine societal transformation.
He insisted that both the church and the government must prioritize the “right path” for development, reinforcing traditional values over the pursuit of easy wealth.
According to Soludo, his administration is actively working to restore the fundamental teaching that hard work is the true precursor to success, rather than the “miraculous” shortcuts often promised by opportunistic clerics.
In his address, Soludo highlighted the success of the Anambra Burial Law as a prime example of his administration’s commitment to reform.
By eliminating the expensive pomp and pageantry traditionally associated with funerals, he argued that the state is shifting focus toward ensuring a “befitting living and a decent burial” for all citizens.
He commended the Catholic Diocese of Awka for its role in promoting the common good and resisting the “societal decay” that often stems from these extravagant and exploitative practices.
The governor concluded by urging all Nigerians to show unwavering courage in pursuing systemic reforms, stressing that leadership must always favour what is right over what is popular. “We remain committed to keeping the state clean and clear of practices that weaken our social values,” Soludo stated.
He reiterated that his administration would continue to target and dismantle any systems of deception that threaten the integrity of the state and the well-being of its people.
