The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, this declaration reflects the Federal Government’s deep respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims.
By granting these holidays, the government aims to support citizens observing the sacred festival alongside the global Islamic community.
In his message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated the Muslim faithful both within Nigeria and in the diaspora on the auspicious occasion.
He described Eid-ul-Adha as a festival of profound spiritual significance, deeply rooted in the virtues of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
The Minister further urged Nigerians to utilize the holiday period for prayers and reflection regarding the peace, security, and prosperity of the nation.
He concluded by calling on all citizens, regardless of faith, to embrace the spirit of brotherhood, unity, and peaceful coexistence during the celebrations.
