Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has voluntarily turned himself in to security agencies for a comprehensive investigation.
The lawmaker is facing grave public allegations linking him to banditry, terrorism financing, and kidnapping.
Addressing a press conference in Bauchi, Senator Buba stated that he made the decision to cooperate fully with investigators to establish the facts.
He emphasized that these claims are too serious for mere political debate and must be subjected to professional security scrutiny.
Through his legal team, led by former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President Chief Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, the senator has officially reported to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
Buba explained that his past legislative duties involved sensitive national security matters, which he believes were distorted to falsely associate him with criminal elements.
The senator noted that he previously petitioned the police over the publications in September 2025, leading to ongoing criminal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja alongside separate Interpol interventions.
However, he stressed that legal action alone is no longer sufficient given the gravity of national security concerns, urging security institutions to thoroughly examine the claims.
Concluding his address, Buba appealed to his supporters to remain calm and avoid violence or retaliation.
He challenged anyone possessing credible evidence against him to present it to the authorities, while demanding accountability for those who manufactured and circulated false claims.
