The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially ratified former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The decision was finalized during the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Saturday, amidst intense enthusiasm from party delegates.

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, moved the motion for Obi’s ratification, which was promptly seconded by former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, triggering loud cheers from the jubilant crowd.

Peter Obi, in his acceptance speech delivered before party leaders led by National Chairman, Seriake Dickson, NWC members and delegates nationwide, declared that Nigeria is at a “dangerous crossroads” marked by uncertainty, fear and declining public confidence.

He painted a grim picture of anxious families, struggling businesses, suffering communities and millions of youth questioning their future, while warning that ethnic, religious and political divisions were weakening the country’s foundation.

Despite the bleak assessment, Obi insisted despair was not inevitable, anchoring his campaign on “A New Nigeria is Possible” and urging citizens to rebuild trust, institutions and unity.

He pledged an intelligence-driven, technology-enhanced security strategy to tackle worsening terrorism rankings, promised to raise health insurance coverage above 20% and make all 8,809 ward primary health centres functional, and vowed to invest in education and increase power generation by 10,000 megawatts within four years.
