The United States and Iran have signed a deal aimed at ending the Middle East war, with a formal ceremony scheduled for Friday in Switzerland.

The event is expected to mark the beginning of a 60-day negotiation period designed to address outstanding issues and establish a framework for lasting regional stability.

U.S. President, Donald Trump, signed the Memorandum of Understanding during a candlelit dinner at the Palace of Versailles following the G7 Summit.

Video footage shared by a Trump aide showed French President, Emmanuel Macron, and other guests applauding as the agreement was finalized.

The memorandum seeks to bring an end to months of conflict that began after U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran in February.

The fighting triggered widespread instability across the Middle East, disrupted regional security, and sent shockwaves through global financial and energy markets.

The war, launched on February 28, escalated rapidly as Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting locations across the region.

The exchange of hostilities intensified tensions among regional powers and raised concerns over a broader international confrontation.

The conflict also had major economic consequences. Iran’s actions effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes, while the United States responded by blocking shipping to and from Iranian ports.

Officials from both sides have expressed hope that the newly signed agreement will pave the way for de-escalation and a negotiated settlement.
