The United States of America guaranteed a top-finish in their World Cup group following a dominant, high-energy 2-0 victory over Australia in front of a boisterous, sellout crowd in Seattle.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured a place in the round of 32 with consecutive World Cup wins for the first time since 1930.
The Americans’ status as group winners was later confirmed following Türkiye’s unexpected defeat to Paraguay, capping off a historic night for US soccer.
The US set the tone early when Australia defender Cameron Burgess inadvertently stabbed the ball into his own net in the 11th minute, desperate to clear after American striker Folarin Balogun had raced to the byline and squared a dangerous pass across the face of goal.
The hosts doubled their advantage just minutes before halftime. Alex Freeman reacted quickest to a deflected Sergiño Dest strike, nodding the ball past Australia goalkeeper Patrick Beach.
Though initially flagged for offside, the goal was ultimately awarded following a video assistant referee (VAR) review.
Meanwhile, a dramatic clash elsewhere in the group saw 10-man Paraguay eliminate Türkiye from the tournament with a courageous 1-0 victory.

Paraguay suffered a red card before halftime but successfully protected a lead established just 64 seconds into the match.
Matias Galarza wound up from 25 meters out and fired a low rocket home to score the fastest goal of the tournament so far, anchoring a gritty defensive effort that ultimately aided the US team’s advancement strategy.
In Group C action, Brazil firmly took control of the standings with a clinical 3-0 demolition of Haiti at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
A crowd of 68,324 watched the Seleção unleash a first-half blitz, featuring a brace from Matheus Cunha and a slick third from Vinícius Júnior in stoppage time.
While Haiti showed resilience and grew into the match after the interval, creating several chances, Brazil’s Alisson and a composed backline comfortably managed the game to see out the clean sheet.
Group C’s other fixture saw Morocco edge out Scotland 1-0 courtesy of an early flash of brilliance from Ismael Saibari.

The PSV Eindhoven man was played through by Brahim Díaz shortly after kick-off, swiftly controlling the ball before firing past Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn at the far post.
Saibari’s 71-second strike—which was briefly the fastest of the tournament before Galarza’s goal hours later—proved to be the sole difference in a tightly contested match.
