Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has assented to sweeping amendments to the Hospitals Management Board Law, decentralizing hospital administration into zonal management boards and establishing district hospitals to enhance healthcare delivery across the state.
Governor Eno announced this milestone while appending his signature to 14 newly passed bills at the Government House.
During the event, he revealed strategic plans to redeploy medical doctors currently serving in administrative roles back into active clinical practice, emphasizing that prolonged absence from the field could adversely affect service delivery and patient safety.
Addressing other critical legislative approvals, the Governor explained that the law establishing the Public Procurement Regulatory Agency is designed to consolidate transparency and fiscal accountability.
He stressed that strict adherence to procurement regulations has significantly contributed to the overall success and integrity of his administration.
On the newly enacted Betting and Lottery Regulatory Agency law, Governor Eno clarified that the legislation aims to effectively regulate industry operators, safeguard residents from fraudulent activities, and ensure absolute compliance with state laws.
The framework provides a structured environment for gaming operations while protecting public interest.
Looking ahead, the Governor further announced that an Environmental Sanitation Bill will soon be transmitted to the State House of Assembly to strengthen environmental enforcement measures.
Under the proposed legislation, the government will be empowered to clear neglected premises, recover operational costs from property owners, and seal affected facilities where necessary.
