The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully apprehended a member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate specializing in dispossessing unsuspecting motorcycle operators of their bikes at gunpoint.
The gang, which had been terrorizing residents within the Midim Clan and surrounding areas, met its match when police operatives acted on a string of credible intelligence reports regarding their activities.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the operation targeted a specific criminal hideout.
Upon sighting the police team, the suspects attempted to evade capture by fleeing the scene. However, following a high-stakes chase, 28-year-old Uduak Vincent, a native of Ikot Ifang Village in Abak Local Government Area, was successfully apprehended by the officers.
The search of the suspect and the hideout yielded a significant haul of incriminating items. Recovered evidence included one locally made pistol, a small axe, and a knife, various charms suspected to be used for “criminal fortification,” six wraps of a substance believed to be Indian hemp and three bottles of “Ice,” two button phones, three rings, a SIM card, and a multi-coloured handbag.
While two other members of the gang managed to escape into the nearby bushes during the raid, the Command has assured the public that efforts are “in top gear” to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed his commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements, urging citizens to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to the authorities.
