Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has escaladed his political feud with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of breaching a trust agreement.
Speaking during an inspection tour of major infrastructure projects in Abuja, Wike claimed Fubara reneged on a gentleman’s agreement not to seek a second term in exchange for dropping past impeachment proceedings against him.
Although Fubara ultimately withdrew from the contest after picking up an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form, Wike condemned the initial move as a sign of bad faith, while noting he was unsurprised by the eventual emergence of Kingsley Chinda as the APC candidate.
Amid the political commentary, the Minister focused heavily on the rapid progression of several high-profile FCT projects, declaring the inspection “one of his happiest days” as the city prepares for a wave of commissions.
The infrastructure drive is timed to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office this June. Wike expressed immense satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by various contractors, stating that the extensive developments vividly showcase the current administration’s commitment to effective governance.
Among the critical sites visited was the Renewed Hope City access road in Karsana, which Wike revealed is 98 percent complete and will soon unlock access to thousands of affordable housing units.
The Minister also highlighted the 17km Old Keffi Road rehabilitation project spanning from Kado Village to the Dei‑Dei axis, where contractors are finalizing asphalt paving and streetlights.
Once commissioned, this vital corridor will directly link multiple communities—including Saburi, Gwagwa, Idu, and Karmo—to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), drastically reducing local travel times.
Furthermore, Wike lauded Arab Contractors for their “stellar” transformation of FCT Highway 105 connecting Airport Road to Kuje, and commended Gilmor for completing Phase 1 of the Kuje–Gwagwalada Road.
The tour concluded at the Abuja City Gate remodeling site, a facelift project handled by Julius Berger Plc. Wike described the project as the brainchild of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and confirmed that the remodeled gate is on track for an early June handover to give the nation’s capital a modern, welcoming new look.
