JAMB Explains Withheld Results for Underage 2026 UTME Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) clarified on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, that the results of underage candidates who participated in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have not yet been released.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, issued a statement to address concerns from parents and students who have encountered a “No result yet” message on the board’s portal. The board emphasized that this status is not due to a technical error but is a deliberate measure aligned with current statutory regulations regarding candidate age.

According to JAMB’s existing policy, only candidates who will be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, are eligible for standard admission. However, the board noted that “exceptional” underage candidates may still be considered if they demonstrate extraordinary academic ability. To qualify for this category, a candidate must achieve a UTME score of 320 or higher and maintain a minimum of 80 percent in subsequent screening stages. This high benchmark serves as a filter to ensure that only the most gifted students are granted age-related waivers.

The statement further explained that an agreement had been reached and endorsed by the parents of these underage applicants, stipulating that only those meeting the 320-point threshold would be invited to proceed to the next stage of screening. Consequently, the results remain withheld while the board identifies the top performers who qualify for further evaluation.

Dr. Benjamin reassured the public that the “No result yet” notification is a temporary status for this specific demographic. For now, the results for all candidates below the age requirement remain unreleased pending the conclusion of the shortlisting process.
