Akwa Ibom state governor, Umo Eno, is set to take a decisive step toward transforming the state’s agricultural landscape with the official commissioning of the Ibom Equipment Leasing Facility on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Scheduled for noon at Ekpri Nsukara in Uyo, the inauguration marks a pivotal moment in the administration’s drive to modernize farming.
This strategic initiative, developed through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agribusiness Unit, serves as a cornerstone of the Governor’s ARISE Agenda and its overarching goal of a statewide “Agricultural Revolution.”
The new facility is designed to serve as a central hub for agricultural mechanization; offering a comprehensive suite of services, including land preparation and technical support.
To ensure operational excellence, the site is outfitted with administrative buildings, a fully equipped maintenance workshop, and specialized tractor sheds. The initial fleet includes a robust collection of tractors with various implements and two low-bed trailers, specifically acquired to facilitate the rapid deployment of heavy machinery to farms across the state.
This project is more than just a storage site for machinery; it is a critical component of a broader economic strategy.
By providing farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses with affordable access to high-end equipment, the state aims to bridge the long-standing mechanization gap.
The facility complements other state-led programs such as the Ibom Model Farm, the Tree Crop Revolution, and various farmer grant schemes, all aimed at boosting commercial yields and ensuring long-term food security for Akwa Ibom residents.
Beyond increasing crop production, the state government anticipates that the leasing hub will stimulate economic diversification and create a wealth of new employment opportunities within the agricultural value chain.
Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has extended a formal invitation to stakeholders and the general public to witness the event.
The government maintains that this landmark project underscores its unwavering commitment to sustainable growth and the continuous improvement of livelihoods through innovative governance.
