The Federal Government has officially declared Friday a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended the government’s recognition of the labour force’s pivotal role in the nation’s progress.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister congratulated workers nationwide for their unwavering commitment to national development.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the hard work and resilience of the Nigerian workforce remain the essential engines driving the country toward long-term growth and economic prosperity.
Beyond the celebration, the Minister called on employees across all sectors to deepen their sense of patriotism and productivity. He noted that dedication to duty is not just a professional requirement but a crucial pillar for sustainable development.
He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and security of the labour force while fostering an environment conducive to business and economic stability.
Concluding the announcement, the Minister wished all citizens a happy celebration while urging them to remain peaceful and law-abiding. He encouraged Nigerians to use the holiday as a period of reflection on the values of unity and collective effort, which he described as fundamental to the ongoing task of nation-building.
