Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has officially hit the pause button on his music career to spearhead a massive political mobilisation effort in Osun State.

On Tuesday in Ede, the singer inaugurated a 43-man “Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team” designed to drive the re-election bid of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Davido announced that he will be taking a two-month hiatus from the studio and stage to dedicate his full influence to the upcoming August 15 governorship election.

The newly formed committee, chaired by Davido himself, features a robust grassroots structure with coordinators strategically placed across all three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, and 30 local government areas.

The leadership team includes Adeshina Kayode Olododo as Vice Chairman and Gbenga Idowu as Secretary. This wide-reaching network is tasked with aggressive door-to-door mobilisation, ensuring that the campaign’s message reaches every corner of the state, including the Modakeke Area Office.

Addressing the committee during the unveiling, Davido emphasized that his involvement transcends family ties, citing the Governor’s track record as his primary motivation. “I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle, because he is doing a good job,” the singer stated.

He urged the youth members to act as ambassadors of the administration’s achievements, focusing on direct community engagement to connect voters with the Governor’s ongoing developmental projects.

As the August 15 polls approach, the political atmosphere in Osun State is intensifying with a three-way battle for the Government House.

Governor Adeleke, seeking a second term under the banner of the Accord Party, faces stiff competition from Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Dr. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

With Davido’s high-profile entry into the fray, the youth vote is expected to play a pivotal role in determining the state’s next leader.
