The Ondo State Police Command has significantly increased security presence across Akure, the state capital, ahead of an official visit by Vice President, Kashim Shettima.
The Vice President is scheduled to inaugurate the newly completed Onyearugbulem Flyover, a project initiated by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in July 2023 and completed under the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
In addition to the infrastructure commissioning, Shettima will visit the residence of the elder statesman and leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti. The visit serves as a high-profile tribute to the veteran leader in celebration of his landmark 100th birthday.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed that a “watertight” security arrangement is currently in effect.
Jimoh noted that a robust architecture—including Police Mobile Force personnel, tactical units, and EOD-CBRN (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) operatives—has been strategically deployed to key locations to prevent any potential security breaches and ensure a hitch-free event.
The security operation is a collaborative effort, with personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Amotekun Corps manning major routes leading to the celebrant’s residence.
Authorities have assured the public that these measures are strictly to guarantee the safety of the Vice President, the centenarian celebrant, and all well-wishers attending the day’s festivities.
