Boko Haram Attacks Borno School; Mass Student Abductions Feared

Terrorists suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Friday launched a daring invasion on Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in the Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The assault, which has thrown the community into panic, has raised grave concerns over the safety of the students, with many school children currently feared abducted by the attackers.

Local sources revealed that the terrorists stormed the school premises riding on motorcycles, striking less than 30 minutes after military troops had left the Mussa community.

The targeted village is situated on the perilous fringes of the infamous Sambisa Forest, a notorious stronghold for the insurgent group, making the area highly vulnerable to sudden guerrilla-style raids.

The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Askira, who hails from the affected local government area, has officially confirmed the school invasion.

However, he noted that concrete information regarding the exact number of abducted students remains sketchy, as community members are still reeling from the immediate aftermath of the attack.

According to Hon. Askira, while many students managed to escape the onslaught by fleeing into the surrounding bushes, details on those captured remain unverified.

The lawmaker expressed deep concern over the timing of the raid, stating it was disheartening that the insurgents struck immediately after patrol troops departed, which strongly indicates that the attackers were spying on military movements.

Efforts to reach the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, for an official statement were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
