President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

A statement released by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Aina will succeed the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose successful two-term tenure is set to expire on July 31, 2026.

At 39 years old—turning 40 this July—Professor Aina is set to make history as the youngest Registrar to ever lead the nation’s apex admissions body.

A distinguished academic and systems expert, Aina previously made waves in the academic community by becoming one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of computer engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

His relationship with JAMB comes full circle with this appointment, having started his career at the board during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year.

Professor Aina brings an elite academic and technical background to the role, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK.

He is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School’s Senior Management Programme and maintains active memberships in prestigious professional bodies, including COREN, NSE, IEEE, and the IET.

With over 15 years of experience operating at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional reform, the incoming Registrar has previously consulted for major examination bodies like NECO and NABTEB.

In the presidential directive, Bayo Onanuga noted that President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to leverage his vast digital expertise and practical insights to optimize JAMB’s operations, steering the critical educational organization beyond the laudable heights achieved under Professor Oloyede’s leadership.
