The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists – NUJ has scheduled its comprehensive 2027 election debate to run from December 9 to 11, 2026.
The landmark event aims to establish a direct and interactive platform where candidates vying for various elective positions can engage with the press and articulate their strategic plans to the electorate.
According to the union, the program is carefully structured to serve as a credible and non-partisan arena. It targets hopeful contenders across major political offices, including candidates contesting for the governorship, senate, House of Representatives, and the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, allowing them to present their manifestoes and governance visions freely.
Addressing journalists and stakeholders at the NUJ Press Centre in Uyo, the State Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, emphasized that the initiative underscores the union’s deep-seated commitment to strengthening democratic values.
He noted that the forum will empower voters to objectively evaluate candidates based strictly on their competence, character, and administrative capacity.
Reiterating the leadership’s dedication to fairness, the Chairman of the 2027 Election Debate Planning Committee, Comrade Ndanti Ekuh, assured all registered political parties and participating candidates of an uncompromised process.
He stated that the committee is fully committed to maintaining an even playing field that guarantees equal opportunity for every participant.
In addition to internal mobilization, the committee leadership extended appreciation to key media allies, specifically acknowledging the active partnership of the Conference of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State (COOPA).
The synergy is expected to broaden digital reach and ensure maximum public engagement throughout the multi-day program.
Concluding the announcement, the planning committee issued an open call to well-meaning individuals, corporate organizations, and civil society groups for moral and material support.
They stressed that broad stakeholder backing is vital to successfully executing the initiative and giving the people of Akwa Ibom a stronger voice in the democratic electoral process.
