The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal hideouts and identified black spots across the state, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of illicit substances.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, operatives acted on credible intelligence to raid a suspected criminal hideout along the Aka-Etinan Road in the Uyo Local Government Area.
During this intelligence-led operation, 25-year-old Inemesit Ekpeyong was taken into custody, and a subsequent search of the premises led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
In a separate, coordinated raid, operatives from the command’s Anti-Cultism Unit targeted another suspected hideout at Mnideim Nto Udo Village in the Essien Udim Local Government Area, following reports that the location was being used for drug sales and other activities threatening public safety.
This second operation resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects: Mandu John, Ubong John, and Ekemine John.
Following these developments, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, has directed a thorough investigation into the activities of all four suspects.
The probe will focus on identifying their sources of supply, unmasking possible accomplices, and dismantling wider criminal networks connected to the recovered substances.
