The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that the Benue State Government orchestrated the recent blockade of Peter Obi’s convoy during the former Anambra State governor’s visit to the state.

Sowore stated that the incident, which involved a crowd preventing Obi and his delegation from proceeding into Makurdi while chanting hostile slogans, bore the hallmarks of a pre-planned, government-sponsored action.

According to the AAC candidate, the involvement of the state administration was further reinforced by the reported presence of a special adviser to the Benue State governor among the demonstrators.

Sowore emphasized that no Nigerian citizen should ever be restricted from moving freely or conducting legitimate visits anywhere in the country, regardless of political differences or affiliations.

While acknowledging his own ideological disagreements with the former presidential candidate, Sowore maintained that the dispute was strictly political rather than personal.

He stressed that he harbors no ill will toward Obi, his campaign team, or his delegation, reiterating that the fundamental right to freedom of movement must be protected for all political actors.

Sowore further warned that the hostile confrontation could set a dangerous precedent and signal a rising wave of political intimidation ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

He cautioned that if such tactics are permitted to succeed, they could quickly escalate from localized harassment into more severe security threats and targeted violence.

Concluding his remarks, Sowore called on the public and political stakeholders to reject all forms of violence and intimidation.

He urged relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident, identify those behind the orchestration of the blockade, and ensure that appropriate sanctions are applied.
