The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will commence the nationwide distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to eligible registered voters on Friday, October 9, 2026.
This crucial rollout forms a core part of the commission’s ongoing preparations to ensure that all eligible Nigerians can actively participate in the upcoming democratic process.
According to the commission, the distribution exercise is specially designed to provide access to PVCs for voters who recently registered, transferred their voting locations, or requested replacements for lost or damaged cards.
The initiative aims to clear any backlog and ensure every qualified citizen is fully equipped ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, during a strategic engagement meeting with journalists in Abuja.
Speaking to media stakeholders, Professor Amupitan emphasized the electoral body’s unwavering commitment to transparency and efficiency in the build-up to the polls.
Highlighting technological advancements, the INEC Chairman noted that the commission is significantly strengthening its deployment of technology.
This measure is specifically engineered to ensure that stolen, lost, or compromised voter cards cannot be exploited by unauthorized individuals to manipulate or interfere with the electoral process.
In addition to the card distribution update, Professor Amupitan issued a stern warning to political parties and their supporters against disrupting the campaigns of rival parties.
He stressed that maintaining peace and adherence to electoral guidelines is mandatory for all stakeholders as the nation moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
