The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has alleged that online critics attacking President Bola Tinubu and his supporters are financially motivated, as he called on northern youths to champion grassroots mobilisation for the administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Arewa Revival Project, a northern youth group representing the 19 northern states, Akpabio defended the current administration’s trajectory and highlighted ongoing efforts to diversify Nigeria’s economy.
He argued that the implementation of recent tax reforms and legislative changes represent unprecedented development since independence, shifting the nation away from a heavy reliance on crude oil.
Addressing the audience, the Senate President urged young people to look past online criticisms and engage directly with local communities.
He claimed that online opposition groups are being paid to spread propaganda, whereas grassroots supporters are driven by a genuine commitment to Nigeria’s future and governmental continuity.
On the critical issue of national security, Akpabio expressed strong optimism that the country’s security architecture is set for a major overhaul.
He disclosed that the constitutional amendment process to establish state police is nearing finalization, noting that roughly 30 state Houses of Assembly have already endorsed the decentralized policing framework.
The visit concluded with the Arewa Revival Project presenting an award to the Senate President in recognition of his contributions to nation-building.
In response, Akpabio assured the delegation that the federal government remains focused on stabilizing the economy and overcoming prevailing security challenges to secure long-term prosperity for the younger generation.
