Akwa Ibom Wins Big in New National Governance Rankings

Akwa Ibom State has emerged as one of Nigeria’s top-performing states in governance, according to the latest Governance Performance Index (CGPI) released by the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies.

The prestigious ranking places the state firmly within the country’s elite tier for administrative excellence and efficient leadership.

According to a statement released via the official social media page of the Chief Press Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Ekerette Udoh, the state secured a spot among Nigeria’s top ten best-governed states.

Akwa Ibom recorded an impressive score of 64 percent in the 2025 CGPI assessment, a milestone that highlights its exceptional performance across several critical governance indicators.

The Governance Performance Index is a flagship initiative of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies.

It was established to serve as a comprehensive framework for benchmarking, documenting, measuring, and encouraging good governance practices across all 36 states of the federation.

The rigorous assessment evaluates states based on key dimensions of modern administration, including e-governance, transparency, and accountability.

Furthermore, it measures institutional effectiveness and public service delivery, ensuring that states are judged on tangible outcomes that impact the citizenry.

By achieving this high ranking, Akwa Ibom State benefits from an evidence-based platform that compares governance outcomes and identifies areas of progress.
