The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully apprehended an armed robbery suspect within the Uyo metropolis.

The operation also led to the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm, marking another victory for the command in its ongoing crackdown on criminal elements in the state.

The breakthrough was officially confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.

The announcement underscores the police force’s heightened vigilance and commitment to ensuring the safety of residents within the capital city and its environs.

According to the official statement, the suspect was intercepted during a targeted stop-and-search operation around the Mayflower axis on Oron Road, Uyo.

The deployment was a direct response to actionable intelligence and swift tactical maneuvering by the operatives on duty.

The operation was triggered after the command received a distress call at approximately 10:30 p.m. on June 27 from a concerned resident of Ikot Okubo.

The caller reported suspicious activities linked to armed robbers in the area, prompting the police to swiftly cordon off potential escape routes.

DSP John further noted that a thorough investigation will be conducted to establish the suspect’s full level of involvement in the alleged criminal activities.

The police command has assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in tracking down potential accomplices and ensuring justice is served.
