The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued Mrs. Adonkie, the wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, just a day after she was abducted from her residence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The brazen kidnapping took place on Tuesday, September 1, prompting an immediate and coordinated emergency response from security forces.
According to a statement released by the military, troops from the elite Guards Brigade and the Army Headquarters (AHQ Garrison) mobilized swiftly upon receiving news of the incident.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the combined security teams tracked the kidnappers into the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, quickly closing the distance between the fleeing suspects and the victim.
Faced with the rapid deployment and overwhelming firepower of the advancing troops, the criminals buckled under pressure.
They abandoned Mrs. Adonkie in the vicinity of Angwan Sabo Village and fled on foot into the surrounding thick bushes, allowing the military to rescue her unharmed.
Following the successful recovery, the operation swiftly shifted into a manhunt as additional forces were deployed to seal off potential escape routes.
On Wednesday, September 2, a follow-up sweep paid off when troops intercepted members of the fleeing syndicate near Gaube village within the Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
During this subsequent engagement, two suspected kidnappers were apprehended by the troops.
Authorities also recovered an arsenal from the suspects, including one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, as clearance operations across the region continue to hunt down any remaining fugitives.
