The Defence Headquarters has officially broken its silence following the tragic demise of the former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (Retired), who lost his life while being held captive by bandits.

In a formal statement released on Saturday, the military high command expressed deep mourning over the loss of the senior officer, while fiercely reaffirming its unwavering resolve to eradicate terrorism across the country.

The official statement, signed by the current Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, extended the deepest sympathies of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to the Abubakar family, his colleagues, and the nation at large.

Maj. Gen. Uba highlighted the late officer’s distinguished career, noting his immense contributions to counter-insurgency operations and his exemplary service as the spokesperson for various military formations and the AFN.

The military described his commitment to the unity of Nigeria as a shining example for all serving personnel.

Addressing the prior silence surrounding the situation, the Defence Headquarters explained that it had intentionally withheld public comment on the abduction out of deference to ongoing, delicate rescue efforts.

The military assured the public that every available operational resource and sister security agency had been actively deployed in a high-stakes bid to secure his safe return before the tragic outcome.

In the wake of this loss, the AFN declared that its resolve to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty and protect its citizens has only been strengthened.

In response to the recent wave of abductions, ongoing military operations have been aggressively intensified to dismantle terrorist networks and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The DHQ closed with a firm assurance to Nigerians that the Armed Forces will not relent until peace and security are fully restored nationwide.
