Former Cross River State Governor and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has described President Bola Tinubu as a formidable politician while heavily criticizing his administration’s economic performance.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Duke argued that President Tinubu is politically weaker than he was during the 2023 elections.
According to Duke, widespread economic hardship has left many citizens disillusioned, turning public hope into despair.
He stated that while the President remains a skilled political strategist, his three years in office have exposed critical weaknesses in governance.
The former governor asserted that the President does not deserve a second term, warning that worsening living conditions could further endanger the country.
However, he cautioned that defeating the incumbent in 2027 will remain an uphill battle if opposition parties fail to resolve their internal divisions.
Duke warned that a fractured opposition risks handing victory to Tinubu on a platter, even if the President ultimately wins with only a minority of total votes cast.
He emphasized that opposition camps must proactively anticipate and mitigate election-day challenges rather than complain after the fact.
Concluding his remarks, Duke expressed his willingness to step down from the presidential race if other opposition leaders agree on a consensus candidate.
He noted that his primary objective is unseating the current administration through a unified front best suited to challenge the ruling party.
